Trump told Secret Service more resources needed: adviser

Former President Trump told the Secret Service “that he believes that more resources are needed,” a campaign adviser said Tuesday.

“Well, first, the president always makes clear that he very much values the work and the risks and the sacrifice of his personal detail,” Tim Murtaugh told NewsNation’s Blake Burman on “The Hill.”

“He admires them very much, and he very much appreciates the job that they do, and he thinks they do an excellent job in keeping him safe,” Murtaugh continued. “He did tell the acting head of the Secret Service that he believes that more resources are needed because we’ve seen what happened.”

Trump faced an apparent assassination attempt over the weekend, coming only a few months after an attempt he experienced back in July at a rally in Pennsylvania. Sunday’s apparent assassination attempt occurred while Trump was golfing in Florida.

Authorities in Florida said Sunday that a Secret Service agent saw a rifle barrel sticking through a fence while Trump was golfing at his course in West Palm Beach. The agent fired shots and a man dropped an AK-style rifle with a scope and fled in an SUV, officials added.

“This has happened twice now,” Murtaugh said on “The Hill.” “It’s not as though this is some sort of speculation that the Secret Service is not fully adequately protecting him.”

In a post on Truth Social late Sunday, Trump thanked law enforcement after the apparent assassination attempt.

“I would like to thank everyone for your concern and well wishes – It was certainly an interesting day!” Trump said in his post.

“Most importantly, I want to thank the U.S. Secret Service, Sheriff Ric Bradshaw and his Office of brave and dedicated Patriots, and, all of Law Enforcement, for the incredible job done today at Trump International in keeping me, as the 45th President of the United States, and the Republican Nominee in the upcoming Presidential Election, SAFE. THE JOB DONE WAS ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING. I AM VERY PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!”

The Hill has reached out to the Secret Service.
